Epidemiology

Aquamedicine is population medicine where individuals are of importance only as a member of the population. Epidemiology and biostatistics have methods for getting useful information from data about populations, both with regard to disease prevalence and causes - and thus also about possible prevention.
Commercial aquaculture operations can benefit from these disciplines when planning and analysing studies like
- monitoring of health and quality
- causes and success indicators for health and production
- how infectious diseases spread in populations
- riskanalysis about contagious diseases when importing
- clinical trials on feed, management, vaccines, etc
People and competence are located at NVH in Dept of Production Animal Clinical Sciences, and Dept of Food Safety, and at VI in Section of epidemiology.
