The Aquamedicine group provides diagnostic services and scientific advice to fish health workers and the total aquaculture industry in Norway.
The main contact point for diagnostic services is the National Veterinary Institute, which offers laboratory diagnostic services to the whole country. Samples of fish and mussels are sent to the fish health laboratory in Oslo or to regional laboratories in Bergen, Sandnes, Trondheim or Harstad. Some specialized services like eye examination and electron microscopy are provided at The Norwegian School of Veterinary Science. Protocols for sampling, fixation, shipping and more are found in the Diagnostic handbook (Norwegian).
List of our main diagnostic methods:
- Gross pathology, direct microscopy and histopathology
- Immunohistochemistry and fluorescence microscopy
- Bacteriology
- Virology and cell culture isolation
- Parasittology
- Mycology
- ELISA, PCR
- Electron microscopy (EM)
