Pathology

By Trygve T. Poppe, Professor

Interpretation of pathological changes in diseased fish is a cornerstone in all diagnostic work.

It comprises the gross lesions visible to the naked eye and the histopathologiacal lesions where a microscope or electron microscope is needed to see the pathological changes on a cellular and subcellular level. Each disease condition has its own set of characteristics that can be identified and aid the researcher in his choice of additional diagnostic tools. The general tendency in fish farming in Norway is a shift from infectious diseases to husbandry diseases resulting from our intensive farming practices.
