Biochemistry

By Peter Aleström, Professor PhD

The Alestrom Zebrafish Laboratory at The Department for Basic Sciences and Aquatic Medicine, Norwegian School of Veterinary Science is from October 2007 a national FUGE Technology Platform. Annual Norwegian Transgenic Animal Forum (NTAF) will play an important role as meeting place for the Norwegian Zebrafish Network. AZlab is a moderate sized and state-of-the-art zebrafish facility with a holding capacity of 15,000 fish. Zebrafish (Danio rerio) has established itself as a leading model species (ZFIN) for deciphering the genetic and molecular events underlying vertebrate embryo development.

Zebrafish is increasingly used as model organism spanning from human to aquatic biomedicine. A review article "Alestrom et al. 2006, "Zebrafish in functional genomics and aquatic biomedicine" gives a detailed presentation of the zebrafish model. Download article as full text PDF
